2nd Grade Math Activities
19 hands-on, art-integrated math projects suitable for 2nd grade.
The Math Art supplemental curriculum can assist with the instruction of the following math skills and concepts that 2nd graders are required to learn:
- Identifying and working with 3-digit numbers up to 1000
- Memorization and understanding of place value
- Skip counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's beyond 100
- Skip counting by more difficult numbers such as 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9
- Counting money up to a dollar and creating different sets that equal a dollar
- Telling time on an analogue clock
- Measuring in both inches and centimeters
- Describing, identifying, creating, and sorting various shapes
- Determining lines of symmetry
- Reading and plotting locations on a grid
- Constructing and interpreting bar graphs
The supplemental curriculum can also introduce 2nd graders to the following skills, which they will eventually need to master in later grades:
- Understanding fractions as pieces of wholes
- Representing multiplication facts graphically using arrays
- Calculating area and perimeter
- Measuring angles and defining "perpendicular"
- Identifying square numbers
- Identifying similar and congruent shapes
- Constructing and interpreting line graphs and circle graphs
